What is Central Voice?
Central Voice is a set of 8 digital interactive activities designed by Educational Psychologists to support Psychologists, SENCos and other professionals to elicit and assess pupil voice in a visually engaging, accessible and fun way!
Central Voice activities support children (aged 4-14) to explore and express their views. They are divided into 4 key colour-coded categories: About Me, School Life, My Social World and Me and My Feelings.
Key Features of Central Voice:

Suitable for both face to face and remote working practices.
Easily accessible and administered via the Central Voice user portal using desktop, laptop or iPad, enabling Psychologists, SENCOs and staff to:
Type the child/young persons’s responses into editable text boxes and tiles.
Record comments, observations and notes digitally.
Download completed activities and notes as a PDF to include in reports, consultation documentation or Annual reviews.
Reset activities to use unlimited times.
ABOUT ME
My Amazing Strengths
Enables exploration of perceived strengths and positive attributes.
Invite the child to think about other perceived strengths and include these in typeable tiles.
Reflect on and validate strengths at the end of the activity.
Reflect with the child on whether there are any attributes in the ‘Not like me’ section that they would like to develop.
Finish the Sentence
Enables discussion around things that are important to a child, what they enjoy doing and what they might find more difficult.
Great as an initial low demand ice-breaker activity.
Invite the child to choose a card by selecting a colour, so as to provide a sense of control and make the activity more engaging.
Volunteer to take turns to finish the sentence.
SCHOOL LIFE
School Tasks: Easy or Hard?
Enables a child to rate their competencies across 14 academic areas through sliding scales.
Reflect and validate what tasks go well for the child.
Use opportunities to discuss if there is anything that usually helps the child with a specific task.
What Helps Me Learn?
Enables joint discussion around what strategies/supports help a child best with their learning.
Provides an opportunity to discuss how comfortable the child might feel with certain strategies being in place.
Opportunity to think about what else might be helpful, and include this in blank typeable tiles.
MY SOCIAL WORLD
Social Strengths and Needs
Enables a child to express how easy or difficult they find certain social tasks. Includes content relating to aspects of social communication.
Provides opportunity to discuss each statement in more depth. Record additional comments in the Notes section.
Provides opportunity to ask child if they wish things were different or not.
Me and My Friendships
Enables a child to answer Yes/No to a series of statements relating to friendships, social inclusion and social competencies.
Provides opportunity to discuss each statement in more depth.
Provides opportunity to explore the child’s social motivation and social confidence.
Opportunity to ask child if they wish things were different or not.
ME AND MY FEELINGS
How I Feel at School
Provides a space to think about emotions and explore through joint reflection how the child may feel at school.
Child can select key feelings and represent visually how much these feelings occur at school.
Opportunity to explore emotional literacy.
What Feeds my Volcano?
Enables exploration of specific factors that might lead to frustration, anger or overwhelm, using the metaphor of a volcano.
Child can volunteer their own answers to type on the fireball tiles. Prompts are available if needed, which can be discarded in the bin if desired.
Tiles can be placed in specific areas of the volcano to depict the intensity of the feeling that comes with the experience/situation, for example the child may choose to place the tile at the top if that experience/situation causes an emotional explosion for them, or at the bottom to indicate a build-up of frustration, anger or overwhelm.
